Hacio’r Iaith is a new and exciting event where we will explore how technology applies to, around and through Cymraeg (the Welsh language).
Subjects covered are expected to include localisation, internationalisation, machine translation, APIs, mash-ups, education, mobile, blogging and other social media in Cymraeg.
The event will be part BarCamp and part Hack Day (both are well established templates for events worldwide). That means lots of idea sharing, demonstrations and practical sessions, all through the medium of Cymraeg.
Our programme is user-generated, meaning that we encourage real participation and welcome anyone who wants to run a session related to technology and Cymraeg. A session can have two people or more – if it’s useful, go for it! There will be stuff for beginners, hardcore geeks and everyone in between.
To find out exactly what will be happening on the day, visit our wiki (through Google Translate).
Hacio’r Iaith takes place on Saturday 30th January 2010 at the Parry Williams building, Penglais Campus, Aberystwyth University [map].
something here soon! in the meantime see Hedyn’s events page
The event is run by volunteers and funded by our sponsors.
Contributions are welcome in English or Cymraeg, but the focus of the event is use of web technology by Cymraeg speakers, through the language of Cymraeg and also for Cymraeg learners. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided through headsets, for those who request it in advance.
In Cymraeg, “yr iaith” means “the language” and “Hacio’r Iaith” means “hack the language”.
